Thoughtful Lighting Plans That Highlight, Protect, and Elevate Your Property

Custom Outdoor Lighting Design for South Hills Homes & Businesses

Great outdoor lighting starts with design, not fixtures. Before a single light is installed, we take the time to understand your property, your goals, and how you want the space to feel after dark.

At Larkin Outdoor Lighting, our outdoor lighting design process focuses on balance, placement, and long-term performance. We evaluate architectural features, landscape elements, elevation changes, sightlines, and how your outdoor spaces are actually used. The result is a lighting plan that enhances curb appeal, improves safety, and creates depth without looking harsh or overdone.

Every design is tailored to the property. Whether you’re lighting a front elevation in Peters Township, a backyard patio in Upper St. Clair, or a commercial building in the South Hills, the goal is the same: clean, intentional lighting that performs reliably year after year.

Types of Outdoor Lighting Designs We Offer

Every property is different, which is why our lighting designs are tailored to your goals, layout, and how you use the space. We design three primary types of outdoor lighting systems for homeowners and businesses throughout Pittsburgh’s South Hills.

Landscape Lighting Design

We create balanced outdoor lighting plans that highlight trees, garden beds, walkways, patios, and architectural features. The focus is depth, dimension, and visibility without harsh glare. Landscape lighting enhances curb appeal while improving safety around steps, driveways, and entry points.

Permanent Outdoor Lighting Design

As a certified OMNI RGB installer, we design permanent color-changing lighting systems that are integrated cleanly into your roofline or structure. These systems are fully programmable via WiFi and Bluetooth, giving you one installation that works for holidays, sports seasons, events, and everyday accent lighting.

Holiday Lighting Design

For seasonal displays, we design custom holiday lighting layouts that fit your home or commercial property. From classic rooflines to full-property displays, we create lighting plans that look polished and professionally done, not cluttered.

No matter which type of lighting you’re considering, it all starts with a thoughtful design. If you’re ready to see what your property could look like after dark, schedule a consultation and let’s build a lighting plan that fits your space and your goals.

Our Outdoor Lighting Design Process

We take the time to do it right. Outdoor lighting is about placement, balance, and making sure the system performs the way it should long term.

1) On-Site Consultation

We start with a walk-through of your property. We listen to your goals, whether that’s curb appeal, safety, security, or highlighting specific features. We evaluate focal points, dark areas, sightlines, and how you actually use the space at night.

2) Electrical & System Evaluation

If you have existing lighting, we inspect what’s there and determine what can be improved or replaced. For new systems, we review your electrical setup and plan proper power routing, load capacity, and expansion options.

3) Fixture Planning & Layout

We select the right fixtures for each area and plan placement carefully. Beam spread, aiming angles, and fixture concealment all matter. The goal is clean, balanced lighting that looks intentional.

4) Nighttime Demo

Before you commit, we return after dark and set up a temporary demo system. You’ll see exactly how your property will look, and we’ll make adjustments on the spot to dial everything in.

5) Professional Installation

Once approved, we install the system cleanly, hide wiring where possible, and fine-tune everything at night. We walk you through controls and make sure it’s simple to operate.

6) Nighttime Adjustment & Grand Reveal

After installation, we return in the evening for final aiming and precision adjustments. This is when we fine-tune beam angles, balance brightness, and make sure every architectural detail is highlighted exactly as intended. It is also your first time seeing the completed project in its true setting, illuminated at night the way it was designed to be experienced.

If you’re ready to see your property professionally lit before making a final decision, schedule a consultation and let’s get started.
