A Magical First Christmas in Upper St. Clair
A newly built home, a young family, and their first holiday season together. See how we brought their Christmas lighting vision to life with warm white roofline and landscape lights.
Making Their First Christmas Feel Like Home
There's something special about celebrating Christmas in a brand-new home, especially when you have young children who are still captivated by the magic of the season.
These Upper St. Clair homeowners had recently finished building their house and wanted to make their first Christmas there memorable. Rather than tackling a tall, steep roof themselves, they called Larkin Outdoor Lighting to handle the installation professionally.
The goal was a classic, welcoming holiday display that complemented their new home's architecture without overwhelming it. Warm white lighting was the perfect choice, creating a timeless look that would feel just as beautiful from the street as it did when the family arrived home each evening.

The Details Behind the Display
Every element was selected to highlight the home's architecture while keeping the overall design warm, balanced, and welcoming.
Roofline Lighting
We installed warm white C-9 Christmas lights along the gutters and shingles across the front, left, and right sides of the roofline, including the area above the garage.
Following these architectural lines gave the home a clean, defined outline and a classic Christmas appearance.
Landscape Lighting
Eight prominent bushes and trees in the front landscape were wrapped with warm white mini lights.
This added depth and sparkle at ground level, complementing the roofline display without making the property feel overly decorated.
Automatic Operation
As with every Larkin Christmas lighting installation, we provided a dusk-to-dawn timer so the display could operate automatically.
We also left the homeowners a special Christmas gift bag, a small finishing touch for their first holiday season in the new house.
A Beautiful Display Starts With Careful Installation
High, Steep Roof Sections
The home's height and steep roof pitch made this a more demanding installation than a typical single-story property. Our crew used Pitch Hoppers to help establish safer working positions while installing the roofline lighting.
Protecting Young Landscaping
Because the home was newly built, much of the landscaping was still immature. Small trees and delicate shrubs aren't always suitable for wrapping with Christmas lights, as the added handling and weight can damage young growth.
We focused the landscape lighting on eight more prominent plants that could better accommodate the installation, while avoiding the smaller, more delicate landscaping.
A Warm Welcome Home for the Holidays
The finished display brought together the home's architecture and front landscaping with one consistent, warm white lighting design.
C-9 lights defined the roofline, while softly illuminated trees and shrubs added dimension to the front yard. The result was festive without being overwhelming, and perfectly suited to the character of the new home.
Most importantly, the family could enjoy their first Christmas in the house without taking on the challenges of installing lights on a high, steep roof themselves.
